Leading UK independent window and door hardware distributor Sealco has provided locks, handles and hinges for a prestigious project from DIY SOS to improve the lives of war veterans, which was broadcast on BBC1 and featured an appearance by Princes William and Harry.

In its biggest ever challenge, the DIY SOS Big Build team transformed 66 houses in Manchester to make them suitable for British ex-servicemen and their families. The project was visited by the Royal Princes during the building work, underlining the scale and importance of the task at hand.

One of Sealco’s customers – window, door and curtain walling manufacturer and installer, CMS Window Systems – had agreed to support the project by donating all of the super energy efficient PVCu windows required for the project.

CMS Window Systems asked Sealco if it would be willing to donate essential hardware for the 66 homes. “We were only too happy to oblige,” explains Managing Director Derek Malcolm.

“DIY SOS always does superb, life-changing work and when CMS told us about this ambitious plan to support British veterans, we couldn’t have been prouder to send over everything they needed free of charge.”

The project has created a resident-friendly neighbourhood perfectly suited to the needs of veterans, including a Walking With The Wounded advice and therapy centre, plus extensive streetscaping work.

The results – including the Sealco hardware – were broadcast in the two-part BBC1 special in October.
