Sealco, one of the UK’s largest independent hardware distributors, held its CE Marking for Timber seminar for timber window and door manufacturers on 27 March. Over 30 customers from the timber industry and local councillors attended the event, which included advice and a presentation from CE Marking experts and UKAS accredited laboratory and Notified Body for CE Marking, Build Check.

“CE Marking has been a hot topic for joinery companies since changes to the laws were announced,” says Alan Malcolm, Sales Director at Sealco Scotland. “Despite the 1 July 2013 deadline coming and going almost eight months ago, there was still some confusion around the topic and what needed to be done to comply with CE Marking law.

“With this in mind, we got in touch with Build Check to give a seminar specially created for timber window and door manufacturers to offer practical advice how to comply with the new CE Mark Regulation.”

At the event, CE Marking expert Richard Bate gave an in depth presentation on CE Marking before an afternoon break-out session where visitors had the opportunity to ask us questions about CE Marking for timber products one-to-one. They also got to see The Oracle, Build Check’s online fenestration resource working and look at Sealco and Yale’s range of CE Marked ready hardware for timber products.

Richard Bate, technical director at Build Check says: “Micro enterprises can be CE Mark compliant more simply that they might expect, and the time and costs it takes are also much less than they think.”

Speaking about the event, Drew Kidd from Falkirk Council says: “The seminar has clarified a few points for me including testing for safety devices which is something that could be quite easily missed. It has been a really well put together presentation and interesting to hear the questions that other businesses were asking too.”

Sandy Hilston from A&J Hilston adds: “The day has been informative. I have a subscription to The Oracle and it’s been a good opportunity to see a live demonstration of it and check that I am doing everything I need to stay CE Mark compliant.”

“The seminar was a huge success. It was great to be supported by Build Check and have them on hand to talk about their individual products and services with regards to CE Marking. It was also a good chance for us to get together with customers,” adds Alan.
